CBD For Cats

Your feline friend is near and dear to your heart, so it only makes sense that you’d want to offer them the quality care that they deserve. Increasingly, cat owners are using natural products in order to enhance the wellness of their cats.

Here are a few things we here at Hemp a Better Life think you should know before you offer your cat CBD.

Your Cat Could Find A Different Life With CBD

Every day, researchers are finding more uses and more benefits from using CBD.

While there isn’t a lot of research into CBD and cats, what’s available and the anecdotal evidence out there is quite positive.

But what is CBD?

So we know that it’s safe for your cat, but what exactly is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a chemical compound that is found in all cannabis plants. This compound is just one of many cannabinoids that can be found in cannabis plants. When extracted from hemp, CBD Can be made into a litany of products, including tinctures, sprays, capsules, and salves. When your cat takes these CBD products alongside vet-approved treatment options and medicines, your cat’s health and wellness may benefit.

When you or your cat uses a CBD product, the compound interacts with the receptors within the ECS, or endocannabinoid system. The CB-1 receptors of the ECS are part of your central nervous system, and play a role in functions like emotion, motor control, and cognition. The CB-2 can be found in the peripheral nervous system, and are connected to the immune system and inflammation responses of the body.

How is CBD Different from THC?

There’s a lot of confusion and misinformation out there about cannabis products, especially when it comes to CBD. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is a psychoactive compound, and a high concentration of it can be found in marijuana, a member of the cannabis plant family. Hemp, on the other hand, has high concentrations of CBD, which actually counteracts the psychoactive effects of THC.

THC, however, is not safe for cats, and you should not offer your cat any products made with THC. When a cat ingests THC, they may experience symptoms like anxious or depressed moods, vomiting, slowed heart rates, a decrease in coordination, and in some cases, seizures.

How Much CBD Should I Offer My Cat?

Every cat has unique nutritional and supplement needs. Since the research into cats and CBD is being conducted every day, there are no set recommendations for precise doses as of yet. That doesn’t mean you can’t find the right dose for your cat, but instead, it will require some experimentation on your own.

When you’re offering CBD to your cat, you’ll want to keep a few things in mind, including:

—The concentration of the CBD product you’re using
—The size and weight of your cat
—What results you want for your cat
—Additionally, you’ll want to think about your cat’s activity levels, and their diet when considering how much CBD they need. When figuring out the right dosage for your cat, we suggest starting with a small amount, and slowly increasing that amount over the course of several days. Measure their reactions and continue to use the dose size that you think is most effective when you’ve found it.

Our Feline Formula CBD oil contains approximately 8mg of CBD in every 1 ml. Generally, we suggest for cats about 10lbs in weight, offer them ¼-½ ml twice a day. How much CBD you offer your cat will depend on how they react to that.
